Smartphone knowledge has gone past the era of just knowing one little thing about your phone, it’s now at a point where two or more information is needed and should be kept important.
Recently and even currently, you could hear someone just telling you
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Android phone!
That’s quite clear, but there are different variants of the same Samsung Galaxy S7 out there. There’s a Samsung Galaxy S7 G930A, 930V, 930F etc.
Not everyone cares about these, especially the average Samsung smartphone user. It even affects other phone brand users.
Now is the time when manufacturers are producing about 5-7 variants of the same phone and it even gets more complicated to fix our devices personally with the model number confusion.
So why should you bother yourself with knowing the exact model number of your Samsung Android phone? It affects the users a bit but matters more to the power users or technicians.
- If you would like to go a little deep with your phone like a power user, then you should start by knowing its correct model number.
- If you don’t know it’s correct model number, you might not be able to get files or data specifically made for your device.
- With the right model number, everything about your smartphone will be tailored.
Imagine you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 G930A and because of your incomplete knowledge, you download the firmware for G930V because it had Galaxy S7 attached to its name. You will end up wasting your mobile data and time.
This shows how important it is to know the exact model number of your Samsung Android phone. Knowing the model number is easy and very important. It will always come handy when you have issues with the phone and would help you give a more personal approach to your phone when solving issues.
So, let’s see how easy it’s to find/know the model number of any Samsung Galaxy device.
Turn on the Samsung Android phone and allow it to boot up completely.
Click on the App drawer icon or all apps icon.
Click on Settings
Scroll down and select About phone
You will now find all the necessary details about your Samsung Android phone including its model number.
That’s the model number you need if you are searching for any specific info, file or update about your Samsung device.
So what about Samsung devices that are bricked or having boot up issues?
Once your Samsung Android phone isn’t booting properly and you need to reinstall its firmware or download an update, you will certainly need to know its correct model number.
This is the method I prefer even if the phone is working or not. It shows you the exact model number. E.g of Samsung devices that the sticker will have a different model number from the main software are mostly Chinese variants of Samsung devices.
You will see GT-i9300 on the sticker but will surprisingly see GT-i9305 in the phone’s software. It can seriously mislead anyone who doesn’t take it seriously.
So how do you find out the model number of a Samsung Android phone that’s bricked or working? The simple thing is to boot into Download mode. In download mode, you will find your original device model number, not just the stuff on the sticker which anyone can comfortably change.
Turn off your Samsung Galaxy phone and allow it to completely go off, a few of them will vibrate.
Press and hold the following buttons simultaneously. Volume down + Power + Home button
On newer devices like the Galaxy S9, you will need to press the Power button + Volume down + Bixby button
If there’s no home button on your device, use the volume down and power button.
Release the power button once the phone turns on (while still holding onto both the other buttons).
You may be required to press Volume up to confirm your entry into download mode since it’s an important mode on Samsung Android devices.
Once in download mode, you will see the exact model number of your device written at the top of the screen. A lot of other information like product code, system status, binary, FRP status etc can be seen on the download mode screen.
To quit the download mode, just press and hold Volume down + Power key for some seconds until the phone goes off. Then you can let go.
Another fast method of checking if your Samsung Galaxy phone is original is just by inputing this code via the dialer.
It will then show up a lot of test options for the camera, screen, notification light, sound , etc.
This only works on Samsung devices. I intentionally tried it on my Xiaomi and it failed as expected.
Knowing your exact Samsung Android phone model number and other vital phone information will certainly save you the stress of redoing stuff due to the limited knowledge you have about your device.
